FAQ Newborn Sessions

When Should I book a Newborn Session?

Babies are usually photographed anywhere from 6-10 days. With that being said, it is best to book during your pregnancy session. If you decide after the baby is born to photograph your new little one, then give me a call and I will work with your schedule. We will set a date from your due date or scheduled c-section, with the understanding that we can easily move the date or time, if baby comes early or late. I ask clients to call me when the baby is born with the arrival date and weight – this way we can plan the best schedule. Babies are best photographed around 10 days, but this is dependent upon the weight. Smaller babies (5-6 pounds) may be photographed around 12-14 days, while as bigger babies should be photographed around 6-10 days.

I am sensitive to Mama’s recovery and I will work with you to schedule your baby. Please call either prior to the delivery or once the baby has arrived and I will go over the best time to schedule your newborn session. Regardless of our schedule, I always leave time for newborns! Many clients call us panicked that other photographers are advising to schedule at the second trimester or that they are all booked. I keep a flexible schedule to allow for pregnancy and newborn sessions and I will fit newborns in as quick as I can. Ideally it is best to call as soon as the baby is born or if it is a scheduled C Section,  you can call ahead. I will never tell you are we are booked for the year, and I will never rush you. The idea is to have gorgeous newborn photos. If you are interested in all of the cute wrapped, squishy baby poses then you should want to come around 6-10 days.

What about feeding my baby?

Mamas are generally asked to do most of the feeding at my studio so that baby is nice and relaxed. I love a hungry baby! I want this beautiful new baby to relax and feed in the studio or if I come to you, just before I arrive. What if my baby poops or pees?! It’s ok!! I am used to it and it truly doesn’t bother me – I just grab another blanket!

Will my newborn be cold in the studio?

I also use heaters and white noise to help soothe babies – and I have a/c for the hot ones.

How long will a Newborn Session last?

Newborn sessions generally take about 2 hours. I have a full changing station for your baby’s needs. I welcome toddlers, parents and grandparents in any session for no additional charge. I will have plenty of healthy snacks, sweet treats and drinks. The session can go over or under the 2 hours, as I will not rush and I will allow for plenty of time.

Retouching?

General retouching is provided on digital or printed images.

What should I do to prep my newborn for this session?

I suggest using Eucerin on baby’s skin in the morning after a bath to keep everything soft and smooth. As babies grow the acne and peeling skin will occur. You do not need to worry, as I can really remove anything during the retouching process. For umbilical cords, I will pose in a way that will disguise it.
